I painted “Desert Sentinels” on gallery wrapped 3/4-inch canvas, the painting continuing around the edges.
This is Monument Valley, seen across that great open distance — the monuments rising up in their own peculiar shapes, sculpted by wind and time into forms you won’t find anywhere else.
What pulled me towards this view was how nothing out there grows or stands the way you’d expect: the monuments, the tree, even the low scrub. Each one shaped entirely by its own conditions into something singular.
