Goldwater Sunset, oil on canvas panel, nestled in a floater frame I designed and built myself.
This is Goldwater Lake in Prescott, Arizona — a place I’ve found has some of the most striking sunsets I’ve seen. This particular evening, the whole sky turned to layered color: lavender sliding into rose, rose into gold, before it even touched the horizon. Below, the lake took on those same colors and gave them back, a little changed — the gold turning to amber, the pink going deeper and more muted, like the water was holding the light rather than just showing it.
What I love about it is that the sun isn’t just setting once, it’s setting twice. The second time, in the water, is a little softer, sunk a little further into shadow, like an echo that has already begun to let go.
