Rocky Mountain Irises, oil on canvas panel, nestled in a floater frame I designed and built myself.
Wild irises in bloom, high in the Colorado Rockies — a riot of violet and cream petals veined with gold, unfurling against fields of spring green. In this piece I tried to capture that fleeting mountain moment when the meadows wake up all at once: cool alpine light, the deep shadow of the tree line behind, and these delicate blossoms catching every bit of sun they can before the season moves on.
There’s something about the contrast — the fragility of the petals against the wildness of the setting — that feels like the whole spirit of spring in the high country to me.
