Heading North

Here is my painting for the Day 21 of the 30 in 30 challenge. Another one that I actually painted over an old painting. I feels like I am just starting to understand the power of oil paints. I come from a  watercolor background so I am always concerned about planning ahead. But this is […]

Natalie (part 2), Day 20, 30 in 30

Monday morning figure painting today again! Too much fun to describe in words, but let me tell you, it is way too much “fun”! 😀 Anyway, started working on the fun part, the lights, today. See the color difference and paint them as such. “If you are not seeing the shape of color, then you […]

Blue Hills and San Francisco Peaks

Blue Hills 8″x 10″ oil on panel I did two paintings yesterday, back-to-back, literally.  Painted one, turned around and painted the second one facing the other way. I actually reused some of my pre-used panels that I didn’t very much like the studies that they had one. I wasn’t sure if that was going to […]

Looking towards Granite Dells

This painting I did yesterday, from up the hill behind my house again. It has been a long time I used a palette knife, it was interesting, though I think I have been enjoying using a brush better. Now only if I can figure out how to use one! Ha Ha! Looking Towards Granite Dells […]

Saturday morning Life Drawing- Noel

Yesterday our model was Noel. Very sweet guy and yet just sculpted. It was a lot of fun to draw him as you could see every muscle and bone. All surface goodies things you learn while studying Anatomy while never see. So this was a “treat” shall I say!

Looking East-Winter-5pm

Another one from the gorgeous view that you get when you climb up the hill behind our house. It just about a 360 degree panoramic view. From Bill Williams mountain in the north to the San Francisco peaks at the base of which Flagstaff is situated. Then as you look east, these typical Arizonan mesa […]

Orchids

I always tend to kill orchids. It’s sad because I love them and I have looked up on how to take care of them, but they just don’t survive. But I will keep trying. These ones some friends brought over for me a couple of months ago and they are still blooming! Amazing! Orchids are […]

Granite Mountain Again

Another view of the mountain. I picked a spot where these really soft and fluffy looking plants were growing right in front of it. The interesting thing about them was how they glowed against the drab winter landscape. 10″ x 8″ oil on gessoed panel

Moonrise

A very quick, perhaps a 15-20 minute painting, en plein air, trying to catch the colors of dusk with a full moon rising. It was an amazing evening. You could see the bands of colors in the sky rising out of the earth. 8″x10″ oil on panel

Granite Mountain
